Once upon a time . . .

In a magical land called the City of New Orleans, it was the season known as Mardi Gras. And on a balcony overlooking Bourbon Street, on the night of Lundi Gras (the night before Fat Tuesday), two strangers met at a party.

Gina and Evan both came to the all-you-can-eat, all-you-can-drink, all-the-beads-you-can-throw party with friends, looking forward to an evening above the crowds in the French Quarter rather than jammed in among them. But being short, Gina soon found that watching the scene below from the balcony railing, which was equally crowded, posed a problem. Then she spotted a tall, handsome guy in a backwards baseball cap standing in a strategic position.

"Hmm...," she thought. "He's tall, he's cute, and he's standing by the railing. I think I'll go talk to him!"

Best decision she ever made. After a romantic (well, festive) evening together--during which Evan and his friend Walter, now their best man, supplied Gina and her friends with a continuous flow of beads with which to tempt revelers below--Gina and Evan promised to meet up at the Zulu Parade along St. Charles Avenue the next day. The only problem: St. Charles Avenue is very long, and Gina's friends had moved from their usual spot. Evan heroically and fruitlessly spent the morning searching up and down St. Charles for Gina, who failed in her quest to get a coconut from one of the Zulu floats, but *did* manage to track down something much more important--Evan's cell phone number. They had dinner on the eve of Fat Tuesday, wandered the Quarter together, and returned home wondering if a brief Mardi Gras romance could go anywhere.

Nearly two years later...

Needless to say, that Mardi Gras romance did go somewhere, because we're getting married! And this romantic tale should explain why our wedding site is decorated with Mardi Gras masks. In the spirit of our first meeting, expect more Mardi Gras and New Orleans touches at the wedding (we hope you like Hurricanes). Please come prepared for a real celebration!

We can't wait to see you all there as we bring New Orleans to New York.
